RPG Research is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable research and human services global volunteer-run organization studying the effects of cooperative music and all role-playing game formats and their potential to improve lives around the world.

Our on site and online programs are helping improve the quality of life of life for thousands of people around the world every year!

Beginning with our founder, RPG Research has been involved with:

Involved with role-playing games since 1977.
Involved with software development since 1979 including ERPGs.
Researching their effects since 1983.
Providing programs in educational settings and for educational goals since 1985.
Working with at-risk, high-risk, and incarcerated populations since 1989.
Providing therapeutic RPG programs for many populations since 2004.
Providing the world's largest open and free online research repository on the effects of role-playing games since 2004.
RPG Research incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable research & human services organization in 2017.

We are 100% run by unpaid volunteers across 5 continents. In addition to the thousands of volunteers for specific events through partnership with other organizations over the decades, since 2016 we began developing a model that trains and retains volunteers long-term rather than just per-event, and helps spread our research and community programs globally.

In 2016 we had just 2 regular volunteer staff members. In 2018 we had 10 regular volunteer staff members. As of February 2020 we hit over #118!

With an average of only around $3,000/yr in donations, our lean and efficient programs, and extensively trained volunteers, provide so many benefits to participants in so many diverse communities, with so very little funding. We especially reach out to those in under-served and un-served locations with help from our accessible mobile facilities, the wheelchair accessible RPG Bus and RPG Trailers.

Our staff consists entirely of more than 100 unpaid volunteers across 5 continents, dedicated to making lives better.
