Video Transcriptionist and Closed Caption Writer

Short summary of the job: The non-profit RPG Research is looking for multiple transciber volunteers that can write down the words spoken from Youtube, Twitch, and similar videos. They will also use these transcriptions to correctly fill in and sync closed caption text for the videos online and offline to improve accessibility for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The videos are about role-playing gaming, so if you are familiar with the that will help you to be even more effective. Transcribed content need to be well formatted to comply with Youtube standards and additional standards as specified by RPG Research.

We create on average between 5 to 10+ videos per week, ranging in duration from 1 to 4 hours each. We currently have a backlog of more than 1,000 videos.

Transcribers for multiple languages are also welcomed, but transcriber must be fluent in English since most of the videos are primarily in English. First and foremost all videos will need English transcriptions, then additional transcriptions in other languages would be a wonderful plus.

We need volunteers to help us maintain our extensive research archives consistent of thousands of content items, run our programs, and help us continue to grow so we can help improve more lives around the world.

Responsibilities

View and listen to videos in English

Transcribing primarily for closed captioning in English for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (additional languages welcomed)

Write full transcripts primarily in English with additional descriptions of any actions so that visually impaired can hear about descriptions with text readers (additional languages welcomed)

Upholding established protocols and style guidelines

Commit to 2 to 6 hours per week (including weekly 1-hour check-in meeting)

Regularly update progress log too coordinate with team on progress
